1-oz Gold Bars

The primary reason for buying one-ounce gold bars instead of one-ounce gold bullion coins is to buy “cheaper gold,” i.e., gold with a smaller market up over spot. Typically, 1-oz gold bars carry premiums as much as $25 per ounce less than American Gold Eagles, which are the best selling gold bullion coins in the U.S.

Perth Mint and PAMP one-ounce gold bars are readily available. Both come twenty-five bars to a container. Each bar is individually encased; a container of twenty-five one ounce gold bars measures 7-1/2″ X 4″ X 2-1/4″. By comparison, twenty-five one-ounce gold bullion coins in tubes would take up less than one-fifth the space.

How to buy gold bars

One ounce .9999 fine (pure) gold bars have grown in popularity since the 2008 Financial Crisis mainly because they carry lower premiums than the popular one-ounce gold bullion coins, of which the most popular are American Gold Eagles and South African Krugerrands.  Several refineries and mints produce 1-oz gold bars for the US market.

Perth Mint 1-oz gold bars

Perth Mint 1-oz gold bars are readily available and are one of the two most popular 1-oz gold bars sold in the US, PAMP 1-oz gold bars being the other popular 1-oz bars.  Perth Mint bars are individually wrapped and packaged 25 bars to a container.

PAMP one-ounce gold bars

PAMP one-ounce gold bars once dominated the one-ounce gold bar market but not now, as the Perth Mint bars have made big inroads in US.  PAMP bars, like the Perth Mint bars, are .9999 fine (99.99% pure) and come in cases of twenty-five bars. Each bar is encased in Mylar with a “certificate of authenticity” printed on the cardboard that surrounds the bar.

One side of the PAMP one-ounce gold bars carries the Lady Fortuna design, which is rapidly becoming highly recognized in the United States.

Credit Suisse (Credit Swiss) 1-oz gold bars

Credit Suisse one-ounce gold bars also are available but generally have to be purchased in large quantities, where as the Perth Mint bars are readily available in small quantities.  Credit Suisse bars are manufactured by PAMP and are essentially the same bars with the exception of the designs. Credit Suisse bars carry the Credit Suisse hallmark, while PAMP bars bear both the PAMP logo and the likeness of Lady Fortuna. The Lady Fortuna design graces most PAMP gold bars.

Where as PAMP and Perth Mint 1-oz gold bars come 25 to a containers, Credit Suisse 1-oz gold bars come in sheets of 10.
