Four men arrested for theft of giant gold coin

Four men, ages 18 to 20, were arrested and charged with the March theft of a 100-kilogram gold coin from the Bode Museum, Berlin, Germany.

Some 300 police officers and Special Forces personnel apprehended the four without incident in a neighborhood that is populated with large communities of immigrants. One report said those arrested were from a “large Arab family.” Another report said that three of the four were “associates of a crime ring.”

One of the men was a security guard who had started working at the Bode Museum only three weeks prior to the theft.

The coin was not recovered. “The crime was too professional for us to expect to find the coin,” a police spokesman said.  The theft was supposed to have been carried out by teenagers, yet the police described as “professional.”  Perhaps planned by professionals but carried out by youngsters.

The police confiscated a “six-figure” quantity of cash. The police did not speculate as to whether the cash was from the sale of the coin.  Where else would they come by such a large amount of cash?
