Cheapest silver bars
Canadian silver bars weighing 800-900 ounces
Investors looking for the cheapest silver, i.e., silver carrying the smallest markup over spot, should consider the Royal Canadian Mint's unique 850-oz .9995+ silver bars. Actually, these Canadian silver bars do not weigh 850-oz, but that is about the average weight of the bars. Occasionally, one of these RCM silver bars will weigh less than 800 ounces, and occasionally more than 900 ounces. But, the average weight is close to 850 ounces.
The 850-oz Canadian silver bars carry much smaller markups over spot than 100-oz silver bars, which are a popular silver investment. The 100-oz silver bars are popular because they weigh only 6.86 pounds (on a bathroom scale), which makes them ideal for storage, even in safe deposit boxes. Just about anyone can handle 100-oz silver bars.
As noted, RCM Canadian silver bars weigh about 850 ounces, which is about fifty-eight pounds on a bathroom scale, only a few pounds more than a bag of junk silver coins. Although RCM Canadian silver bars are not suitable for all investors, they are ideal for those investors who can handle the weights of these bars. Canadian silver bars are just about the cheapest silver investment available.
Because the RCM bars weigh less than seventy pounds, they can be shipped via Post Office Flat Rate boxes, which is an economical way to ship. In contrast, 1,000-oz silver bars often weigh more than seventy pounds, exceeding the Post Office weight limit for Flat Rate boxes. And, interestingly, boxes weighing less than sixty pounds are manageable, while boxes weighing nearly seventy pounds become problematic.
RCM Canadian silver bars are serially-numbered and have their year of production stamped on them. Further, they carry the hallmark of the prestigious Royal Canadian Mint, producer of Canadian Silver Maple Leaf coins.
Canadian silver bars: unique
The RCM Canadian silver bars are unique for two reasons: One, their weights, significantly less than 1,000 ounces, which makes them manageable. The other feature: they are .9995+ in purity.
For most silver bars, the minimum fineness is .999, which is how most 100-oz silver bars are marked. While some 100-oz .999 fine silver bars are of higher purity than .999 fine, they are marked .999 fine. The RCM Canadian silver bars, however, are nearly always of a purity greater than .9995, and they are marked with their purity on them.
RCM Canadian silver bars are ideal for investors who want the buy the cheapest silver. However, investors need to keep in mind these bars' weights. RCM bars are not for all silver investors.
